What our customers say about the Deli!

It seems impossible to leave Rattle Ghyll Deli with only the item you actually went in for. I might pop in for Winter Tarn Butter, and leave with that of course, but also Wild Garlic Sauerkraut, a loaf of sourdough, a jar of queen butter beans, incredible pistachio cannelloni, oh and some olives, maybe homemade salads and frittata for lunch. The list goes on! I discover something new and utterly delicious every time I visit. I often find myself messaging foodie friends with photos of my latest discovery, accompanied with the caption “you have to try this”. The deli is curated so carefully with an array of interesting, unusual and fine foods, and yet it doesn’t feel at all pretentious or fussy. You could just as easily get a refill of pasta, porridge oats and washing up liquid, as exceptionally fine antipasti and incredible single estate chocolate. And the atmosphere is always warm, friendly and helpful. It’s a true gem and I feel lucky to have it on my doorstep.

Rattle Ghyll Deli Cheese Ambleside Lake District
In the small Lake District town of Ambleside, there is Rattle Ghyll, a delicatessen of the highest quality that one would only expect to find in a food orientated city such as Bristol.

As you walk in the door, you are greeted by delicious cooking aromas, welcoming and knowledgeable staff, and shelf upon shelf of amazing products, many locally produced, all beautifully displayed. Nuts and cereals are dispensed into one’s own container. It’s all beautifully thought out by Claire and Alec.

On a wet and gloomy Lake District day, you will leave with a smile on your face, a delicious hot savoury quiche, cooked in house, with fresh and tasty side dishes to accompany it.

There is something for all tastes. A large selection of delicious cheeses. A selection of amazing hot pies, brilliant ‘proper’ sourdough bread. Locally produced pasta, vegan shortbread to die for, Anzac biscuits, perfect to take on a walk, and so it goes on!
